Open Book Series

Below are the posts from our Open Book Series.

1. How many kids do y'all want? :)

Answered by Katie:  I guess I should have known that the first question would have been something to do with us having children, haha.  At this point we would like to have three.  I REALLY would like to have twins first and then about three years later have another one.  Yes, I know most of you are thinking I'm crazy and I've been told that quite a few times.  However, I've also been told if you have twins first that you never know anything different and it's really not that bad, but if you have one first and then have twins you never are quite able to make the adjustment.

2.  Since someone already asked about children, do you have any names that you like for eventual kids?

Answered by Katie:  We do have one girls name and one boys name picked out.  However, we are not sharing the names until our children are born.  There are a few reasons we aren't sharing the names we have picked out and they are 1) My mom was given a hard time by my grandmother when deciding on my name.  I was not named what my mom originally wanted to because of that.  I don't think either of our parents would give us a hard time about the names we have picked out, but we didn't want to have to deal with that if they did.  2) We've had several friends that were given a hard time on their choice in names, so once again, we didn't want to encounter that.  3) Our plan right now is to not find out what we are having at least with our first child.

3.  You said in your last post that y'all spent some time apart.  How long was that time and did y'all talk during this time?

Answered by Katie:  I have a TERRIBLE memory, but if I remember right, I think we were separated (living under different roofs) for about two months, maybe closer to three.  We did talk during this time, but it was nothing like I was used to.  I've known Jarod since 2001 and we've been friends since then and been best friends since 2004, so I was used to talking to him ALL the time and talking to him about everything.  And I seriously mean ALL the time; for instance we both have Instant Messenger at work so we're constantly IM'ing all day or texting (we hate talking on the phone) and then talking once we're home together.  So while we still talked occasionally, it was nothing like what I was used to.  That separation and lack of communication is some of what helped open my eyes to how much I still loved him and wanted to do whatever possible to work things out!  During the second month of separation we'd started going to counseling, so we talked and saw each other a little more.  We just didn't want to rush back into things to fail and have to turn around and move my stuff right back out.

4.  Besides Brookhaven, have y'all talked about anywhere else to live?

Answered by Katie:  Our original plans were to move to Madison.  We didn't even consider Brookhaven until God laid it on our hearts a year ago, and since then that has been the only place we have talked about or even considered living.  It's going to be hard enough for me to not live in the Jackson Metro area since that's where I grew up and all my family lives, so I couldn't even imagine living in a completely different state!

5.  What's your decorating style?

Answered by Katie:  I really don't have much of a decorating style, although I wish I did.  I tend to junk things up with too many accessories or picture frames.  One of the things I am determined to do when we get in our new house is to have friends and/or professionals come decorate my house even though I will have to save up and do it room by room.  I'm determined to finally have a home that is like a picture out of Southern Living.

6.  What's a dream vacation for both you and Jarod?

Answered by Katie:  I don't think I could ask for a more dream vacation than our honeymoon was.  We went to Petit St. Vincent, a private island in the Grenadines.  For me it really was heaven on earth.  I was on the beach and we rarely saw anyone else.  They also have a flag system where you can stick your requests in the flag pole and raise the yellow flag and they come around, pick up the request, and will do whatever you ask!  You raise the red flag when you don't want to be disturbed!  It was so nice to have breakfast delivered each morning and the food was absolutely DELICIOUS, especially the lobster!  We hope to go back at some point, and I would highly recommend anyone who likes the beach and likes seclusion to go if at all possible.  I've posted a few pictures below, but you can see all our pictures from Petit St. Vincent HERE.

Of course there are several other vacations I would love to take like an African Safari, a trip to Australia to watch the Australian Open (tennis), go to Bora Bora and stay in an over-water bungalo, to go to New York and to see a UFC fight in Las Vegas.

Answered by Jarod:   Petit St Vincent is certainly one of the most beautiful places on Earth ... at least of all the places I've seen!  And the other vacations she mentioned are on my list too (which is good since we'll both be going).  :)  A few other places I'd like to go include Italy - I've heard it's beautiful, Israel - and visit all the major Biblical sites, and the western US - I've been to CO skiing but that's it ... I'd love to see the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone and ride the Pacific Coast Highway.

7.  Jarod...why don't you like vegetables?

Answered by Jarod:  That's easy ... because they taste nasty!  haha!  Seriously though, I've tried several things and sometimes it's the flavor, sometimes the texture, and sometimes both.  But I think part of what started it all was rebellion.  When I was little my parents would try to make me try stuff and I didn't want to dang it!  I guess I'm just hard-headed like that.

8.  Is it true that Jarod used to have an online persona named "Terd Ferguson"?

Answered by Jarod:  Dude, I told you that was my secret spy identity, sheesh!  Yes, a few years ago I setup an email account as Terd Ferguson (Google "SNL Celebrity Jeopardy" for the origin of the name) in order to lure scammers running what are known as 419 scams.  If you've ever gotten an email from some poor sole who's parents were tragically killed and left them a huge sum of money with some holding company.  They are more than willing to share the fortune with you, in return they only ask that you front a few thousand dollars to pay fees to the holding company.  99% of the time this isn't the orphan child of missionaries killed in a plane crash ... it's some dude in Nigeria harvesting email addresses from websites and making a killing off unsuspecting targets.  The purpose of "baiting" the scammers is the idea that as long as they're wasting time scamming you (who know exactly what's going on) they aren't scamming someone else who might actually give them money.  That and it can be fun.  :)  Back to Terd though ... for the purposes of answering personal questions asked by the scammers he was a farmer in Canada and had a striking resemblance to Tom Wopat (Luke Duke from the Dukes of Hazzard).  He was a great guy ... I miss him.

9.  If both of you could have any make/model of motorcycle, price no object, what would it be and why?

Answered by Katie:  Surprisingly my dream motorcycle isn't a Ducati or one of the more expensive brands.  Up until recently I've said that my dream motorcycle is a White 2007 Honda CBR 600RR.  I absolutely LOVE the white paint scheme.  It helps that it's one of the few motorcycles that fits me as far as me still being able to touch the ground without having to lower the bike.

In 2009, Triumph came out with a White Daytona 675 and I'm leaning towards that as my favorite now, partly because it's a lot less common.  However, I've never even sat on the bike, so it's hard to say.

Answered by Jarod:  It depends ... I'd love to have an exotic steed to take to the track or for more spirited rides.  For this I think my choice (though I've obviously never ridden one) would be a Motoczysz C1 ... you are sure to NEVER meet another rider on the same bike for sure!

HOWEVER, I know that wouldn't be the most comfy bike for longer rides.  So if I had to pick one bike or just a bike for traveling it would probably be the Triumph Speed Triple:

10.  Favorite colors?!?!

Answered by Katie:  Both mine and Jarod's favorite color is green :)
